DIY zipper bag

Hi friends! It’s been a while. I took a little break over the holidays to relax and reflect on the year. But now I’m back with this adorable DIY zipper bag.

My mom taught me how to use a sewing machine when I was quite young, but it’s been years since I’ve used one. Last Christmas, I got my very own sewing machine, and I wanted to test my skills with a pretty easy project. This was perfect!

If you want to create your own zipper bag, you’ll need:

  • 2 different fabrics, one for outer and one for lining
  • A zipper, I used a 7-inch zipper
  • A sewing machine, with thread of your choice
  • An iron, while not 100% necessary, it helps to make it look so much more professional
  • Yarn, for an optional pompom

This is the tutorial I used, from MADE Everyday, and I highly recommend it:

The pompom was also from MADE Everyday:

This turned out to be the perfect size for a daily cosmetics bag or a travel bag for toiletries (whenever we can do that again!) The pompom is optional, but I feel like it really elevates the whole bag.

In total, this took maybe an hour to complete – but if you’re more confident with your sewing machine, it’ll likely be much faster.

This bag could make the perfect gift for birthdays or other special occasions – just fill with small snacks, lip balms, toys, stickers or anything else your loved ones might enjoy. Those are my favorite type of gifts – homemade and made with love.
